Well the weekend is now coming to an end, and we will be back to the New School... So far, for a "non-french" speaking child... a few things have stuck with Brian... hello, goodbye, my name is Bri-uh (said with HEAVY french accent)... 1-10... and the letter W (the most fun to say). OH and Excellent!
The New School is much closer then our last school, so instead of taking 2 busses (although that was a huge hit with Brian), we are now walking approximately 20 minutes to school.... Normally this would be just fine, except this last week we were hit with such a cold front, that both Brian and I were numb by the time we got there! Our solution to the icy wind that was blowing powdery snow in our faces, was to cover up Brian's face completely with an extra scarf, and him allowing me to "lead him" to school! I'm sure the people driving by found this to be somewhat humorous!
I was very excited on friday morning, to find a fantastic set of french flash cards that provide picture,
french name of item, english name, as well as french pronunciation (for us non-french speaking mama's out there!) So both of us have been slowly going through these to try and expand vocabulary.
I don't know about anyone else, but I personally find it interesting how many french words I already know/knew! Thank you Sesame Street! Each time I remember one of the words I had "learned" as a child, I very excitedly teach it to Brian.
My whole family follows the Baha'i Faith as our religion, and yesterday was the first day of our celebration time, called Ayyam'i'ha. Celebrations, visiting, eating and gift giving continue for 5 days. We do this instead of Christmas (although some people choose to do both). With this explanation out of the way, I can safely say that my child can be very... how can i say... Greedy? that sounds bad, but needless to say he is always interested in what kind of gifts he is going to get (Most children are, aren't they?) This year consisted of some new playmobile, colouring book/felts, a game called Pictureka (sort of an I-spy game for the family), easy reader books, and more stuff to come. It has kept him quite busy for the last 2 days.
In light of all this gift giving, we've been having discussions around how important it is to give things with love, and the fact that you could give the poorest gift, but if its with love it will be the best. Instead of giving a very expensive and big gift, but without love. Anyhow this seems to be remembered at times, and then as soon as the greedy bug hits... is soon forgotten! One day...I hope!
